Fleeting Pages for the win!

In case you haven't heard, Pittsburgh has been fortunate enough to have with us this month Fleeting Pages, a pop-up indie bookstore which has for the month taken the place of the old Borders Books in East Liberty. It has been a very exciting project, not just because it's been selling many small press books and zines but also because the literary people of Pittsburgh have stepped up to create lots of interesting events to utilize this otherwise abandoned space.

There have been many readings as well as workshops, meet-ups, and even a speed dating event. Our awesome visiting writer Eva has been volunteering there quite a bit. On Tuesday, May 31, we're hosting our two-year anniversary with a reading there. Residents past and present will be taking stage and wowing you with readings, storytelling, and at least one stand-up comedy routine. Maybe one of us will tattoo another one of us--- we haven't figured out the details yet.

It starts at 7 pm and is free to the public. If you like, show up an hour or so early and enjoy the Writers' Happy Hour being organized by some other writers in Pittsburgh. Also if you like, stay late and enjoy a poetry slam event organized by still more writers in Pittsburgh. Holy cow! That's a lot of enjoyment!

Spring time!

We rounded out April pretty nicely with two events in one week. The touring poets and our visiting writer Andy did a reading that was great and included some pretty fabulous food. The Lovecraft reading was spooky and featured a cake with black frosting and a goth soundtrack.

Seeds are sprouting in the yard, and we hope to have a lot of flowers and veggies growing in the garden this year. Our new visiting writer Eva is arriving today. We have friends who are neighbors, and neighbors who are friends.

Out of Towners Reading Explosion

At 7 pm on Thursday, April 28, we're excited to be hosting a special night of readers who live outside the bounds of our fair city of Pittsburgh.

Matt Whispers and Richard Wehrenberg are traveling through on a reading tour and joining them will be our current visiting writer Andy who will be going back to NYC a couple of days later.

The traveling readers will have zines for sale to offset tour costs.

Hey team. Things are bustling here at the Cyberpunk Apocalypse. The Visiting Writer room is booked through October. We're sorry to say goodbye to Donnah who set up a totally bad-ass performance of Henry V at the Darker Scratcher space, but we're excited about Andy who showed up this morning.

And so it goes. From project to project. I just

finished coloring my four page comic for Andromeda's upcoming color issue (left), and I'm collecting interviews about the beloved Brew House for an article that will be appearing in the first issue of Outpost Journal.

I'm looking for publishers for my novel while I send my new comic zine to distributors, and I'm working on a new serialized action comic called "Top of the Line" while working to get an online store set up at cyberpunkapocalypse.com.

While I'm working on this junk, Artnoose is making all kinds of sweet cards, and working through the new draft of her

Apocalyptic novel.

Fans of Grixley will be glad to know Nate McDonough has announced (amongst friends) that he's planing to start work on a graphic novel, which he'll undoubtedly do some work on when he moves into the Cyberpunk Apocalypse this August.

Fall of Sauron

As a counterpoint to our Bilbo Baggins birthday party last fall, we're throwing a celebration of the fall of Sauron, which is March 25. We'll watch the fated moments in video form and do some readings from the book. We'll also have Lord of the Rings Risk for people to play in epic fashion. We're hoping to have secured a copy of Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit as well--- if you have one locally, let us know.

In addition, we will have a vegan chocolate cake in the shape of Barad-dûr, complete with flaming eye on top.

John Porcellino in Pittsburgh!

John Porcellino, long time comic zine maker of King Cat Comics, is coming to Pittsburgh to present his work and sign his book. He'll be presenting at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 23 at Lili Coffee Shop, 3138 Dobson Street in Polish Hill. Afterward he'll head upstairs to Copacetic Comics for signing and chit-chat.

This should be a great event, and we're excited about it.

March cool-off results

Congratulations to Daniel McCloskey for winning the March cool-off with his selection of comics compiled into one zine. In addition to half the door money, he also won the first-ever trophy made off-site. Also presented at the cool-off were sticky paintings, videos, a novel excerpt about a cat using a litter box, a zine idea, a design for a city birdfeeder, and of course, comics.

Coming up is our Lord of the Rings party on March 25. If you come by the house, you might even get to sample some of the tester-cakes building up to the one at the party with the flaming eye of Sauron on top.
