Maximum Family Story Hour!

The wonderful stay of our current visiting writer Max Wheeler is coming to a close. If you haven't met him yet, you have less than a week to right that wrong. His end-of-the-residency event will be on Friday, July 29 at 7 pm at the house. He will be reading stories from his own family and encourages you to do the same. Bring a 1-5 minute story to read/say aloud. You know, one of those funny and/or touching family favorites? Yeah, one of those. Max will also be showing the prints he's been working on at AIR this month.

Thanks to everyone who helped us reach our house Kickstarter goal, by the way. We're excited to have so many more sbscribers to our Zine of the Month Club. Meanwhile, Max still has a week left of his Kickstarter project to put out a record and comic for the band Spooktober.

(Also coming up on Saturday, Artnoose and the zine Ker-bloom! will be at the DC Zine Fest, so if you're in or around that city, stop on by and say hello.)

The end is near, and we're over 80% of the way toward our goal. If we reach it the Cyberpunk Apocalypse Zine of the Month Club will be sending Pittsburgh local writing and comics across the US and Europe. We just need one more little push.

27% and counting

The house is packed right now. 4 traveling zinesters are sharing the floor. Max is our new visiting writer, and tonight we're having a dinner with some of our previous residents. It's as good a time as any to point out what the Cyberpunk Apocalypse is doing to connect writers from outside Pittsburgh to our town. Within a few weeks of each other we are hosting readings for folks from California and Australia. We have people here from all over America--I mean right now (they're in the same room as me while I write this).

Kickstart the Zine of the Month Club

The first handful of zines for the Zine of the Month Club subscriptions have been sent out. Now we're trying to really get things going with a good old kickstart.

Help Dan G. make a movie!

Former visiting writer Dan Gingold is working on an exciting new project: the production this summer of a short film called Brother Go Find Your Brother. Dan has already written the screenplay for this film, which takes its title from a line in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It's about a rafting trip that three friends take together and is based on similar trips that Dan has taken on the Delaware River.

He made a very short video describing his project on a fundraising page through Kickstarter.com. He's offering some rewards at different donation levels, including a copy of the finished DVD and a poster made by yours truly. Definitely check out the link above. The video will take less than two minutes of your time, and it's very... well, I like it.

Letterpress house project makes Pop City

Local online news source Pop City is featuring my letterpress house project on its most recent issue. You can read the article here. So far, about half the money has already been pledged, as well as offers for carpentry help and binding equipment. In addition, I've already been stopped on the street by someone who recognized me from the video.
