The man doesn't seem to like writers.

If you know about the Cyberpunk Apocalypse, you probably know about the raid on our house during the G20 in Pittsburgh. If you keep up with Science Fiction, you may have heard about Dr. Peter Watts who was beaten and detained on the Canadian border. Most recently Gabriel Kuhn's inability to even book a flight for his American speaking tour has come to my attention. It had been our intention to help him set something up at one of Pittsburgh's fine Universities, but unfortunately the writer is on a list. And, in the world today it is important to stay off of lists. Read more about it on his blog.

The Apocalypse comes to Cascadia!

Cyberpunk Apocalypse resident Artnoose is currently on a zine reading tour in the Pacific Northwest, performing the most recent issues of the long-running letterpress zine Ker-bloom! in a few cities. Here's the last bit of schedule:

Jan. 21 - Portland OR - 7 pm Red and Black Cafe, 400 SE 12th Ave., with former visiting writer Margaret Killjoy

Jan. 23 - Olympia WA - 7 pm Last Word Books, 211 4th Ave. E, with assorted local writers

Jan. 24 - Seattle WA - 7 pm Cafe Allegro, 4214 University Way NE

All events are free to the public, but supporting the local hosts is a plus (and so is buying a zine).

Demo Reel + Statement

I managed yesterday morning to put together the briefest demo of selected video and sound works from 2009. Clips used are from "Non-Fiction" (neverending river of video), "Birthdays in the 21st Century," a collaborative effort with Sundog Peacehouse, and Hot Dirt 99 (a video and noise project with Ken Kaminski).

Norse mythology foretells a series of events called Ragnarok, which includes the death of major gods and other figures in a great battle, various natural disasters, and a global flooding, after which a new and fertile world emerges. Of course, this isn’t a new story - death and rebirth on the planetary scale occur in narrative traditions of cultures across the world.

As in apocalyptic prophesies told in various cultural traditions, my intent in both art and writing is to put myself and an audience in a space where the end of life as we know it impends - cause for a desperate celebration and evaluation of humanity.

General Updates

Of course we are all excited about Brenda moving in. Brenda Battad has done readings with other members of the house before. Elwin has been working to schedule an east coast reading tour for his new book while I've been sketching out a rough cover design (right). The book is to be published by our friends at 6 Gallery Press and is an excellent collection of urban fantasy and black folk tale-inspired stories that are uniquely Elwin.

I'm also doing the layout for the next Cyberpunk Apocalypse issue (finally) as well as a short zine of erotic fiction stories that will be for sale at the reading we are setting up at Artist's Image Resource Center on Thursday the 11th (right before Valentine's day).

Don't forget to check out the reading at 225 Morewood Avenue. 7-9pm. Featuring Elwin Cotman (best reader in town, says small Nathan), Walker Mettling (our visiting writer (super cool dude)), and others.

The Cyberpunk Apocalypse was in the paper again today, but not for being raided or for our efforts as writers. Today Pittsburgh just wanted to tell us how good we looked. According to this the front page of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's fashion section the semi-homeless look is back.
